Welcome Assistant Professor Takayoshi OBA

2026.01.01

On January 1, 2026, Assistant Professor Takayoshi Oba joined the Solar-Terrestrial Science Division of the Advanced Research Center for Space Science and Technology (ARC-SAT), also affiliated with the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Dr. Oba has shared the following message with us about his research background and his aspirations for future work.

Please stay tuned for Assistant Professor Oba’s continued success and achievements!!

From January 2026, I joined the Advanced Research Center for Space Science and Technology (ARC-SAT). After receiving my degree from the Department of Space and Astronautical Science, The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI), I worked as a researcher at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), and the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) before joining ARC-SAT.

My research field is solar physics, and I am particularly interested in convective phenomena on the solar surface. A vast amount of energy is accumulated and transformed at the solar surface, driving various physical processes in the solar atmosphere, such as the formation of the hot outer atmosphere (the corona) and sudden events including solar flares. The solar wind and high-energy particles released through these processes can also have significant impacts on the near-Earth environment through interplanetary space.

The IMAPCT nanosatellite project, currently being promoted at ARC-SAT, aims to investigate the near-Earth space environment caused by solar activity through radio and plasma observations. By making use of the research and development experience I have gained so far, I will contribute to advancing this project and will work hard toward an integrated understanding of solar-terrestrial science.

Thank you very much, and I look forward to working with you.
